Orissa Homoeopathy Medical Service Rules, 2013 approved

The Orissa State Cabinet approved the Orissa Ayurvedic Medical Service Rules, 2013, the Orissa Homoeopathy Medical Service Rules, 2013 and the Orissa Homoeopathy Medical Education Service Rules, 2013. 

These rules will streamline the service condition of Ayurvedic doctors working in periphery and that of homoeopathy doctors working both in hospitals and medical colleges. These rules would standardise the recruitment of homoeopathy and ayurvedic doctors and would apply to both new recruitment and promotions.

Under the Orissa Ayurvedic Medical Service Rules, there will be two types of doctors Group-A and Group- B. 

Vitamin C can kill Mycobacterium tuberculosis bacteria

An unexpected discovery by an American research team reports that vitamin C can kill the bacteria Mycobacterium tuberculosis that causes multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis MDR-TB. The new discovery is expected to lead to new treatments, cheaper drugs and bring relief to millions of people suffering from multi-drug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) across the globe. The research was undertaken at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. The report published recently has found that, "Vitamin C, a compound known to drive the fenton reaction, sterilizes cultures of drug-susceptible and drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis, the causative agent of tuberculosis." Researchers at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, New York, found that the vitamin C effectively kills drug-resistant TB bacteria under laboratory conditions.

ICCR Scholarship under “Ayush Scholarship Scheme 2013-14"

South Korea: The Government of India is offering scholarships under the AYUSH Scholarship to the meritorious Korean nationals to pursue under-graduate/post-graduate/Ph.D. courses in Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Yoga and Homeopathy. Students wishing to pursue courses in Traditional System of Medicine in India can apply for this scholarship.

The Indian Council for Cultural Relations (ICCR) will administer this scholarship. 6 sets of application form (in original), completed in all respect, and with all necessary supportive documents should be submitted to the Embassy of India, Seoul, latest by May 17, 2013 The candidates should meet the following selection criteria: (i) the candidate should have the eligibility to apply for the course, (ii) should be proficient in English, and (iii) should not have serious health problems. 

Government free to amend the schedule to allow Homoeopaths to practise Allopathy-says Court

The Bombay high court on Friday stayed its earlier order permitting homoeopathic doctors having degree of LCEH (licentiate of the court of examiners in homeopathy) to practise allopathy. Reviewing their April 15, 2013, judgment, a division bench of Justice S J Vazifdar and Justice Mridula Bhatkar stayed the order to the government to amend the schedule of the Maharashtra Medical Council Act to allow LCEH doctors to practice allopathy. 

The Maharashtra Medical Council and Indian Medical Association had filed the review petition, stating that under the provisions of the MMC Act 1965, homoeopaths having this degree cannot practise as allopathic doctors. Senior counsel S U Kamdar, along with advocate Chirag Kamdar, said homoeopaths cannot be permitted to practise modern medicine unless they are registered with the MMC and the government could not amend the schedule of the MMC Act without prior consultation of the MMC. 

Homoeopathy pharmacies do not have trained pharmacy staff

Ninety per cent of homoeopathy pharmacies across the state (Kerela-India) do not have trained pharmacy staff - the reason, as pointed out by Homeopathy Department Officials, is the absence of a formal training course. The situation forces hospital authorities to run pharmacies with unqualified staff, which is a matter of worry as chances are very high that the patients may get wrong medicines. 

The proposal to start formal homeopathy pharmacy courses in its colleges did not see the light of day. “Once, after buying medicines from the pharmacy, I came back t o see the doctor to ask about the pattern of consumption. But, when the doc saw the medicine, he came with me to the pharmacy and got me some other medicines. Later, I realised that the medicines given by the pharmacy staff were not the correct ones,” said Santhi Krishna, a patient. When contacted the Principal and Controller of Homeopathy Colleges, Nisha Paul, admitted that there was a shortage of pharmacy staff in all homeopathy hospitals in Kerala. “There was a course named NCP (nurse cum pharmacist), but it has been discontinued in its third year in 2009. It could only release 120 trained pharmacists in three years against a demand of at least 1,000. 

The Union Government (India) has approved the Rs.22,507 crore National Urban Health Mission (NUHM)

The Union Government (India) has approved the Rs.22,507 crore National Urban Health Mission (NUHM) as a submission under the National Health Mission (NHM). The Cabinet has given the nod to the proposal recently, as a new submission under the over-arching National Health Mission (NHM) which will also have the National Rural Health Mission. Under the plan, the government approved the proposal to set up one

Urban Primary Health Centre (U-PHC) for every fifty to sixty thousand population and one Urban Community Health Centre (U-CHC) for five to six U-PHCs in big cities. One Auxiliary Nursing Midwives (ANM) for 10,000 population and one Accredited Social Health Activist ASHA (community link worker) for 200 to 500 households will be other contents of the mission. “The estimated cost of NUHM for five years period is Rs.22,507 crore with the Central government share of Rs.16,955 crore. Centre-State funding pattern will be 75:25 except for North Eastern States and other special category States of Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand for whom the funding pattern will be 90:10,” said an official release.
