The UP government on Wednesday
reinstated 2,000 ayurvedic, unani and homeopathy (Ayush) doctors whose
services had been terminated by the Mayawati government. The BSP
government had justified its stand saying that these doctors were not of
much use as there was no budget to buy medicines prescribed by them.
But
the Akhilesh Yadav government believes that Ayush doctors could be used
to tackle the crisis of shortage of doctors up to some extent.
"At
present, the state cadre has around 9,500 doctors against a sanctioned
strength of 13,500. This huge gap can be fulfilled up to some extent by
Ayush doctors," said a health official.
"These doctors would at least save the common man from the clutches of quacks," he added.
