Students of Mayurbhanj Homeopathic Medical College and Hospital under the aegis of Revolutionary Students’ Union of the district on Thursday sat on a dharna here demanding take-over of the college by Government.
President of the students’ union and State general secretary of BJD’s youth wing Jitendra Mohanty said the college was established in 1980 to cater to the needs of students in Keonjhar, Balasore and Mayurbhanj districts.
It is the only college affiliated to North Odisha University and has got recognition from the Central Council of Homeopathy, New Delhi.
At present, there are 150 students in the hospital which has a 30-bed indoor capacity besides charitable outdoor facilities.
The college has 12 departments equipped with adequate modern instruments and technical equipment besides a big herbal garden as well as girls’ and boys’ hostels. Even though the institution has all infrastructure facilities along with good student enrolment, the State Government is yet to take it under its fold.
On the other hand, the Government has already taken over three other homeopathic colleges in Berhampur, Rourkela and Sambalpur. Besides the college authorities, the students had repeatedly drawn attention of the local leaders, ministers and the Government over the demand, but to no avail.
Later in the day, the students submitted a memorandum addressed to Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to the Collector.
