Bangalore:The Department of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (Ayush) has directed medical officers and doctors to write legibly in the prescriptions issued to the patients. In a circular issued recently, the department said the names of the medicines should be written clearly in capital letters, along with the doctor's registration number.
The directive was issued following a petition by the Karnataka State Doctors' Handwriting Improvement Association.
Speaking to BM, association president Dr Shantagiri Mallappa said, "Being doctors, we had taken up the movement to improve the handwriting of fellow doctors.
Following the Bangalore Mirror article (At last, handwriting of state doctors will undergo treatment' March 29) we could spread the message of improving handwriting to the doctor community. Many doctors called up and voluntarily registered to improve their handwriting and also said they would write only in capital letters. Today, we are happy that Ayush department has finally accepted our demand and sent circulars to the doctors concerned."
