Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (KVASU) came into existence on 14thJune, 2010 as per Ordinance No.44/2010 and later Act 3/2011 of the Government of Kerala. The establishment of the University was the result of the recognition of the need to advance animal production sector activities. KVASU nowundertakes academic, research, extension and entrepreneurship activities in animal production and dairy sector. The University is empowered to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC act 1956 through its main campus in regular mode with the approval of statutory bodies /councils, wherever required.Chancellor's Award for the Best Emerging Young University forthe year2016-17, 2017-18 and 2018-19 were bagged by the University. The University aims,todecide new courses and curricula based on the advances in the field of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge in Veterinary and Animal Sciences including Dairy Science and allied fields by fostering and promotingVeterinary and Animal Science research such as,a.develop more appropriate livestock production and processing technologies, packages and systems that will be cost effective and profitable for the farmer.b.establish more efficient and cost effective animal disease control, prevention and surveillance measures that will maintain a high standard of animal health.c.research on nutritional values of the various pastures and fodders according to establishment, preservation and ecological zones.d.prescribe standards for feeds and fodder and their nutritive values for sustainable feeding packages for farmers.e.develop breeds and crosses of milch animals, small ruminants, poultry and pigs that are suited for Kerala’s condition in terms of productivity, resistance and tolerance and to advise on suitable gene pools to be protected and preserved.f.conduct necessary tests and trials on the suitability and acceptability of new technologies like biotechnology, embryo transfer technology etc., and advise on its adoption oradaptation to local conditions.to undertake extension activities.to collaborate and co-operate with regional, national and international research institutions and exchange any information that may be advantageous to the livestock development in the State.to act as the primary consulting and advisory body of the State Government and various other agencies of policy making and implementing in the area of Veterinary and Animal Sciences and Dairy Science. It shall also be competent to advise other state Governmentand national bodies in its area of expertise.and such other purposes as the University may, from time to time determine.Kerala Veterinary and Animal Science University has three faculties:1.Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Sciences.2.Faculty of Dairy Science and Technology.3.Faculty of Poultry Science.
Homoeopathy has been a propounded system of treatment for animals as effective and efficacious in human beings since the time immemorial. Animals are treated homoeopathically for both acute and chronic conditions. Acute conditions include injuries. Both physical and behavioural problems are treated. Physical problems include conditions of the skin such as eczemas, eye inflammations, allergies, cough, gastrointestinal disorders, urinary tract diseases including infections and diseases of the kidneys, diabetes, problems of liver and thyroid, diseases of the loco motor system, neurological complaints such as paralysis and epilepsy and hormonal disturbances. More specifically cows and sheeps are treated for mastitis, calves for diarrhoea, pigs for respiratory difficulties and birds for eye infections.There are many veterinarians in Kerala who practice Homoeopathy as an alternative treatment modality. The course is designed to meet the urgent demand of the day for those Veterinary graduates who would like to extend their knowledge in Homoeopathy as an alternative medicine.
